  8 th Jan: Is Akhand Bharat possible? A lot of noise was created when Pa Pu Sarsanghchalak gave a comment that “Akhand Bharat will be a reality in 10-15 years” in August. Liberals, Intellectuals, politicians jumped into fray questioning or mocking it. It was much better than previous reactions. Due to BJP being in power and public discourse favoring Hindutva, there was less mocking of the idea. 15 -20 years ago when Sarsanghchalak Sudarshanji had conveyed a similar idea, Communist leader Namboodripad had called him a person possessed by Mussolini’s ghost (Mussolini, Italian dictator talked about turning Italy into ancient Roman empire) Akhand Bharat in public mind Currently when the idea of Akhand Bharat is talked about, it is understood in the current context. 4 th Dec: Church protest against Vizhinjam port The Vizhinjam International Deepwater Multipurpose Seaport , also known as the Vizhinjam Port is an under-construction port on the Arabian Sea coast at city of Trivandrum . Developed in three phases, the first phase is expected to get completed by September 2023. [1] [2] The initial date of completion was expected to be between December 2019 and August 2020. [3] However, due to some problems in land acquisition and also due the impact of COVID-19, it resulted in delays, and is now expected to be completed by 2023. Once complete, Vizhinjam will emerge as a significant competition to the transshipment ports of Colombo, Singapore and Dubai as it is the only transshipment hub in the Indian subcontinent, closest to the international shipping routes, and is centrally located on the Indian coastline. 3 rd July: Agnipath Yojana Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on 14 June announced the Tour of Duty or 'Agnipath' scheme for the recruitment of soldiers in the defence forces. In a statement released after the announcement, the Ministry of Defence has said that 46,000 'Agniveers' will be recruited this year. Recruitment rallies under the new scheme will commence in 90 days. What is the Scheme ? -Scheme is applicable to age between 17.5 years to 21 years -Candidates will be enrolled under respective Service Act for a duration of 4 years -They will be imparted rigorous military training in existing centers -1 st year package approx. 4.76 lacs INR -Upgraded to 6.92 lacs INR upto 4 th year. -Risk and Hardship, travel, ration, dress allowance as applicable -30% of monthly emoluments to be contributed by individuals -Equal amount will be matched by government - Corpus of 11.71 lacs after 4 years, exempted from Income Tax -25% of the recruits will be...
